Karen Freeman-Wilson, 51, knows that the third time is the charm better than most folks. Wilson tried twice before to become mayor of the city of Gary, Ind., in 2003 and 2007, and lost.
In November, however, the Democratic Harvard Law graduate overwhelming won the seat with 86 percent of the vote.
The mayor’s seat was vacant after Rudy Clay decided not to run for re-election.
“It’s an honor to make history, any way you make it,” Freeman-Wilson said.
In 2000, Freeman-Wilson was appointed Indiana’s attorney general by then-Gov. Frank O’Bannon, after Jeff Modisett resigned to take a private sector job in California. After serving the remaining 11 months of Modisett’s term, she ran to remain in office and lost to Republican Steve Carter.
Freeman-Wilson fine-tuned her message and has emerged as Gary’s great hope to bring about change. She became a pioneer in the process, as Gary’s first female mayor and the only African American female mayor in the state of Indiana.
And her responsibilities are daunting; once again Gary has topped the FBI’s list for murder rates per capita.

*****I found this article very interesting. I know some of you who read it will not agree, but the author makes some very valid points. Do you stand by your man despite the fact that he's humiliated you and made you look like a laughing stock? Could these women really have been that clueless and not know what was really going on? And is that what you want your daughters to do in the same type of situation? When is enough enough? Read the article, and share your thoughts.
This past weekend was very eventful on the high-profile "Atlanta black marriage" front.
First, we saw GOP presidential hopeful and Georgia native Herman Cain announce on Saturday that he was going to "suspend" his presidential campaign amid serious allegations of sexual harassment, and more critically new allegations that he had engaged in a 13 year long adulterous affair with Atlanta resident Ginger White.
Also in Atlanta this weekend, the Bishop Eddie Long announced he was taking a "sabbatical" from New Birth congregation when news broke that his wife of 21 years, Vanessa Long, has filed for a divorce.

Cosmetics are supposed to enhance your beauty, but if you aren't careful they may enhance your healthcare costs. Items like lip gloss and mascara that seem so harmless can actually cause you to end up with conditions such as bacterial infections, the flu, pink eye or even herpes.
It's not that the products or their ingredients pose these threats. The problem arises from the fact that cosmetics are an ideal environment for nasty microorganisms, such as yeast or e.coli, to thrive.
If you are thinking, “doesn't makeup have preservatives,” the answer is yes. But, understand that preservatives are included to minimize risks. They do not offer a solid guarantee that your cosmetics will remain safe. More than a few women have discovered this the hard way. So that you don't get counted among them, develop good habits that can help to keep you safe.

Soulja Boy’s had some tough times over the past year, but every time he’s been in trouble, he’s been able to find his way back home. But unfortunately for the emcee, that may not be the case anymore. According to reports, Soulja was recently served with an eviction notice for his Atlanta home.
According to TMZ, Soulja Boy failed to pay his November rent, totaling $4,725, and was subsequently served with an eviction notice. The rapper has to pay the rent in full by Dec. 5 or he’ll end up homeless.
This isn’t the first time that Soulja Boy has faced a financial jam. Back in August, California filed a $26,805 lien against the rapper and it was also revealed that his McDonough, Ga., home was foreclosed on last year.
Hopefully, Soulja Boy can pull out a $5,000 check before the day’s end. If not, he’ll join these five other celebs who have faced foreclosure this year.

Toni Braxton
In January, a court allowed US Bank to file a foreclosure suit against Braxton for money she still owed on the full price of her $1.5 million home in Duluth, Ga.

Chris Tucker
In October, SunTrust Bank initiated foreclosure on Chris Tucker’s 10,000-square-foot waterfront mansion in Lake Apopka, Fla., after the actor racked up a bill of $4.4 million.

Allen Iverson
In March, former NBA star Allen Iverson’s 6,848-square-foot six-bedroom, nine-bathroom mansion in Denver was foreclosed on after the baller decided to walk away from his home with an outstanding balance of $2,572,914.

Dwight Eubanks
Back in January, the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star was allegedly removed from his Decatur, Ga., home in a quiet eviction. Though police were oddly nearby during his supposed removal, Dwight has claimed that he simply moved out of the home.

R. Kelly
In July, R. Kelly’s Chicago mansion was facing $2.9 million foreclosure lawsuit from JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A. after the singer failed to pay his mortgage for more than a year.
>>>> I've said it before, and I'll say it again. What are these people doing with their money? And why buy property that you may not be able to maintain in the first place? I personally believe that many of these celebs are too busy trying to keep up with the Joneses. Sad, just sad...

According to a new study, women who ate two or more servings of fresh fruit per day were less likely to develop uterine fibroids than those who didn't.
"Our study suggests that uterine fibroids can now be added to the list of potential health outcomes for which increased fruit and vegetable intake might be beneficial," lead researcher Lauren Wise, an associate professor of epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health, told Reuters.
About 70 percent of women develop fibroids at some point in their lives, but African-American women are up to three times more likely to get them. The non-cancerous growths often have no symptoms, but they can be painful, affect menstrual periods, and, in some cases, cause fertility problems or make it difficult for women to carry a pregnancy to full term.
The study, which was published in the December 2011 edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, analyzed data from more than 22,500 African-American women gathered by the Black Women's Health Study.
The data, which tracked the habits and medical diagnoses of those women for 12 years, showed that women who ate four or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day were 10 percent less likely to get fibroids than women who ate less than one helping of fruits and vegetables each day. But after taking a closer look at the data, researchers discovered that the biggest benefit came from eating fresh fruit: Women who ate two or more servings per day were 11 percent less likely to be diagnosed with fibroids than women who ate less than two servings a week.
The amount of vitamin C, vitamin E, folate, and fiber that the women ate didn't affect their risk of getting fibroids, Reuters reported. Getting more vitamin A-it's also found in some dairy products-could be the key, but researchers aren't sure what, exactly, made fruit so good at protecting women against the painful uterine growths.
"Although this doesn't prove that if you change your diet you may be able to change your risk of fibroids, it does appear that there is some association between diet and fibroids." Elizabeth Stewart, who studies fibroids at the Mayo Clinic, told Reuters.

The ex-McDonald's cook cleared after whacking two unruly female customers with a metal pole makes no apologies for the wild confrontation — and plans to sue the fast-food giant. Rayon McIntosh, 31, who served 11 years in prison for manslaughter, says he feared for his life when the two menacing women lunged over the counter of the West Village eatery on Oct. 13. “My life was in danger,” McIntosh told the Daily News. “Females do murder men. . . . I displayed a lot of patience. I was in fear for my life."

In Detroit, two-year-old Bianca Jones has been missing since yesterday morning:
According to police, the girl's father, Deandre Lane, 32, said he was in his silver Mercury Grand Marquis with his daughter in the back when he was carjacked in the area of East Grand Boulevard and Brush around 9:45 a.m.
Within 10 minutes, the car was found at Beaubien and Philadelphia, less than a mile from where the car was stolen -- but the child was gone, police said. Police towed the car about 2 p.m.
Bianca is African American, weighs about 25 pounds and has braided hair. She was last seen wearing either a pink or purple coat with rhinestones or beads on it with pink shoes and pink tights.
The girl's uncle, Olando Jones, said Lane left his house on Mitchell and was on his way to Bianca's mother's house on Custer between John R and Brush to pick up clothing for the girl, who was to stay with Lane for a week.
An AMBER Alert has been issued for Bianca (Source: Detroit Free Press).
However, it is being reported, by WXYZ Action News, that Lane has failed a polygraph test, and remains in police custody for unrelated warrants.
Today, the reward for any information that leads to the return of Jones has been raised to $17,500<

According to The Associated Press, Herman Cain is dropping out of his bid for the Republican presidential ticket:
Herman Cain suspended his bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Saturday following a steady drumbeat of sexual misconduct allegations he said were harming his family and drowning out his ability to deliver his message.
With just one month to go until the lead-off Iowa caucuses, Cain's announcement is tantamount to a concession. Still, he told supporters, he planned to continue his efforts to influence Washington and announced "Plan B" - what he called a grassroots effort to return government to the people.
Cain denounced the accusations of impropriety against him as "false and unproven" but said that they had been hurtful to his family, particularly his wife, Gloria.
"So as of today, with a lot of prayer and soul-searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign. I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distractions and the continued hurt caused on me and my family," a tired-looking Cain told about a 400 supporters.
It was a remarkable turnabout for a man that just weeks ago vaulted out of nowhere to the top of the GOP field, fueled by a populist, outsider appeal and his catchy 9-9-9 tax overhaul plan.

Apparently, Stevie Wonder is seriously thinking about dancing on television screens across America. The 61 year old legend would like to be the 1st blind contestant on Dancing With the Stars, according to The Guardian:
Wonder was asked about appearing during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Is there any truth to the rumour?" asked the chatshow host. "I'm losing weight," Wonder said. "When I get to where I feel like I'm gonna look good enough for what I wanna do, I'll do that." After DeGeneres suggested Wonder already looks great, the singer remained undeterred. "I'll look good in the beginning and I'll look even better in the end," he said.
While Dancing With the Stars has already featured a deaf contestant (Marley Matlin) and an amputee (Heather Mills), it seems like they would be setting the bar kind of high with a blind contestant. But Stevie feels that he would be able to show off some moves:
"You've got to think. If I have 7 children, I've got to be able to dance right?" said Wonder in a recent radio interview (Source: NY Daily News).
I may have watched an episode or two, but I'm not a fan of DWTS and this wouldn't make me watch. I don't know about anyone else, but I think Stevie is too good to do this show. He doesn't have a struggling career; the man is a legend and I would give DWTS such an epic side-eye if this comes to fruition. Someone, please tell Stevie that this isn't the right move for him.<

The police in GA did something right for a change by refusing to evict this 103 year old woman and her 83 year old daughter from their home. MSNBC.com says that the two women got a last minute reprieve when the sheriff's deputies and the movers decided they couldn't uproot them from their long time Atlanta home.
Fulton County Sheriff’s deputies and a moving company hired by the bank showed up at Vita Lee’s Penelope Road home on Tuesday, according to a report on WSBTV.com. Deutsche Bank apparently holds the mortgage that is being serviced locally by Chase, the station reported. The planned eviction was reportedly the latest move in a legal battle that dates back years.
But when the men saw the frail woman, they opted to leave instead of carry through with the forced move, WSBTV.com reported.
Still, the stress of the situation was apparently too much for Lee’s daughter, who reportedly was rushed to the hospital. Lee said she hopes now the bank will leave her alone.
"Please don't come in and disturb me no more," Lee told WSBTV.com. "When I'm gone you all can come back and do whatever they want to."<

RRR Movie Reviews goes Bollywood

For our next Bollywood review we have the horror movie Kaal.
Kaal follows the horror film formula. A random group of people are stranded in the middle of the woods with an unseen killer among them. The movie reminded me of The Ghost and the Darkness except with tigers. The obvious killer is the man eating tiger, but sometimes the obvious is not always the answer. Over all Kaal is a bad movie. The acting is fine, the movie is just bad. The two or three great moments can't carry or erase the fact that this is a bad movie.
